2022 Ford Escape
Ford's lineup includes a range of SUV options, and each has its own advantages. One popular option is the Escape, which boasts plenty of premium features and a spacious cabin.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV that shows off a large front grille flanked by aerodynamic intakes and sporty lighting on its front end. It comes in four trim levels, which are S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The base model rides on 17-inch steel wheels and includes dual chrome exhaust tips and a manual liftgate. Stepping up to the SE trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and ignition, and chrome exterior trim. Options include heated mirrors, remote engine start, a power liftgate, and a panoramic sunroof.
The SEL has most of those features as standard, along with fog lights, 18-inch wheels, upgraded headlights, and roof rails. Ford offers a few options for this trim, including 19-inch black-painted wheels with black styling elements, a hands-free liftgate, and a tow package. With the top Titanium trim, you get LED headlights and fog lights and 19-inch wheels.
Engine (Power)
Most trim levels include a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. It works with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels. The top trim features a hybrid powertrain with a 2.5-liter engine that works with a continuously variable transmission. This powertrain is also available as an option on the SE and SEL trims. If you want more power, the upper two trims are also offered with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit that makes 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.
The standard configuration on all trims is front-wheel drive, although the upgraded 2.0-liter engine is only available with all-wheel drive. You can also upgrade any of the trims to include all-wheel drive as an option.
Performance
Since all of the engine options are turbocharged, they each deliver impressive acceleration and power. When equipped with the 2.0-liter engine, the Escape zoomed from zero to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds, which beats out most competitors in the segment. The hybrid is the most efficient of the three, returning an estimated 44 mpg combined. With three selectable driving modes, drivers can adjust the settings based on their preferences.
Interior
The roomy cabin comes equipped with a height-adjustable driver's seat, a 4.2-inch central display screen, manual climate control, a six-speaker audio system, and an onboard Wi-Fi hot spot. With the SE trim, upgrades include smartphone integration, satellite radio, dual rear USB ports, and an 8-inch touch screen. This model is also available with a range of upgrades, such as heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, power front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
With the SEL, most of those options come standard, plus imitation leather upholstery. The Titanium trim has an auto-dimming rearview mirror and ambient lighting, while leather upholstery and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system are offered as options.
Safety Features
All trim levels of the 2022 Escape come with a rearview camera, anti-lock brakes, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision mitigation, stability and traction control, and lane-departure mitigation. The optional Co-Pilot360 Assist+ package bundles evasive steering assist, navigation, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Ford also includes front parking sensors as a standard feature on the top trim.
